If
you are reading this, then the chances are that you are considering
using natural gas for your energy needs. Congratulations on
a fine decision. Natural gas is the cleanest and most efficient
fuel available. Natural gas consumers continue to talk about
the toasty heat given off by natural gas and the minimal recovery
time needed to refill a depleted water heater. Natural gas
is also the choice for many professional chefs. Again, you
have made a fine decision.
The
first step is setting up natural gas service is to call our
office to find out if we have gas available
in your area. We
strive to provide natural gas to an ever-growing number of
areas, but we do still lack the complete coverage that we
desire. If natural gas is not available in your area, we do
hope that you will consider using propane gas for your energy
needs. Not only is it efficient, it is also similar to natural
gas in that it is better for the environment.
If
natural gas is available in your area, the next
step is to determine if natural gas service already exists
at your residence. Many times a previous occupant has requested,
and we have installed, all of the piping necessary for natural
gas. If this is the case, then all that you need to do is
come into our office, and fill out a contract for natural
gas service. You may be required to put up a deposit based
on the amount of gas previously consumed at that location.
Many people feel that their personal temperature preference
has a tremendous impact on the natural gas consumption at
a particular location. Each individual's temperature preference
does have an effect on the energy consumption, but this effect
is minimal. The main effect on the amount of fuel consumption
is the amount of gas equipment in the residence.
If
natural gas service exists in your area, but not currently
at your residence, then we have to install a service line.
As a service to our customers, we will provide up to 100 feet
of service line and up to 100 feet of main line, or 200 feet
of service line, at no charge. A main line is defined as a
gas line that can serve more than one customer; a service
line is defined as a gas line that serves only one customer.
In order to have a service line installed, you will need to
come into our office and sign two forms. The first gives us
the right to put our pipes in your ground. The second states
that you will begin consuming natural gas within 6 months
of the completion of your service line installation. After
these two forms have been completed, you should have a natural
gas service available at your residence within 2-3 weeks.
After
you have started consuming natural gas, the only other issues
left for discussion are billing and payment. At any location
where we provide natural gas, we install a meter. This meter
is the way that we measure how much gas you have consumed
and therefore, the amount of gas for which we should bill
you. We send a team of qualified technicians out at the end
of every month to read all of the meters at the locations
where we provide gas. This information is then entered into
our computer system and your bill is then generated and sent
to you. The price that you pay for natural gas is not determined
by our organization. We are a regulated public utility and
therefore have a fixed pricing system. Natural gas customers
will notice a significant price change when a wholesale price
fluctuation occurs on a regional or even national level. For
the most part, however, natural gas prices stay fairly consistent.
And the natural gas continues to be the cheapest, most
efficient fuel on the market.
